Working in the Sun, a day in the life of an Aerial Fitter Although we were working on probably the sunniest day this year, & not to mention is was bank holiday Friday I've got to say I actually enjoyed it. I mean, what's better than working outside on a day like this I thought. We were fitting both new wideband (digital) TV Aerials in Kendal, and also a couple of satellite dish installations. When the sun is out and it is warm with not much of a breeze, then this becomes one of the best jobs there is. Working away with the sun on our backs was a real pleasure, not to mention the view. Our first job in Kendal was a TV Aerial installation for a retired vicar. he lived with in sight of the Aerial Relay Mast. This is a mast which receives the TV broadcast from the main antenna, and then repeats it, usually for communities which are placed in valleys & helps areas with poor signal. That being said, this chap in Kendal was still getting picture break up and the Television picture would glich from time to time. The Aerial was old, probably 20-30 years old, the cable was very brittle. We suggested that a new digital approved TV Aerial and cable would be the solution, so we set to and replaced the old aerial with the new log periodic aerial & digitally approved double shielded coax cable. When removing the old aerial we noticed it had had water ingress and so was on its last legs, plus it explained why even being so near to the Repeater Transmitter he was having signal problems. Having fit the replacement television aerial and cable we retuned his TV to pick up the full list of channels available for this area. He was really pleased to now receive all the new channels he had been unable to watch. One happy customer.
