If the sky link and a freeview channel are using the same channel number it will cause interference causing a grainy picture. We simply changed the sky link channel to 63, retuned the TV and all worked perfectly. Another job done, and one happy customer.
We recently went on a call out to a customer who was experiencing problems with his Sky TV Link. All was working well until a few weeks ago when it suddenly went grainy. Although the picture is sent through a standard coax cable, from the RF out from his Sky box it should still show a clear picture. Agreed it isn't as sharp as the HD picture straight from his sky box, never the less it is usually a clear picture. The question is why did it change a few weeks ago? Had the customer altered anything in the set up of the system. We needed some answers and we needed to take a look at his set up. The customer said nothing had been touched prior to the fault, and he also mentioned that if the freeview aerial is disconnected from the sky box, the picture using the sky link becomes sharp again with no grainy interference. This pointed to the answer, but we couldn't work out why. We checked the channel that the TV link was using, it read 31, the other freeview channels used different channel numbers and so 31 should be ok, so why the interference? Then, I remembered that a new TV channels bring HD TV to freeview was being broadcast on channel 31 and had launched a few weeks ago. Eureka!!
